Am 9. September 2015 meldet sich eine syrische Frau per Whatsapp beim Schichtteam der unabhängigen Hotline für Flüchtlinge in Seenot Watch the Med Alarmphone. Sie befindet sich auf einem Boot in der Nähe von Lesbos. Der Motor streikt. Die hier publizierte Whatsapp-Kommunikation gibt eindrucksvolle Einblicke in die wertvolle Arbeit des Alarmphone und macht die Verwerflichkeit der europäischen Grenzpolitik deutlich, die Geflüchtete in solch lebensgefährliche und nur zu oft tödliche Situationen bringt.
Notrufe über die sozialen Medien und Nachrichten Apps sind zu entscheidenden Instrumenten für Geflüchtete geworden, die auf dem Weg nach Europa sind. Dies gilt besonders für die Übermittlung von GPS-Positionen, die es möglich machen, ein Boot in Seenot zu lokalisieren. Die Text- oder auch Stimmnachrichten haben zudem manchmal eine andere starke Bedeutung: sie sind die Verbindung zum Leben davor und zur Zukunft, die darauf wartet, zu beginnen. Sie zeigen, gleichermassen als Signal und Beweis, dass mensch nicht allein ist.
Die nachfolgende WhatsApp-Kommunikation führte eine syrische Frau mit einem Schichtteam von Watch the Med Alarmphone, einer unabhängigen Hotline für Flüchtlinge in Seenot. Sie begann am 9. September 2015, als das Alarmphone eine GPS-Position erhielt. Das Protokoll ist etwas gekürzt, aber was zu lesen ist, sind die Originalnachrichten. Die Frau, mit der sie geführt wurde, ist mit der Veröffentlichung einverstanden. Ihre Reise endete zunächst in Beberbek, einem kleinen Ort in Nordhessen. Die beiden Frauen, die über diesen Chat verbunden sind, haben sich noch nie von Angesicht zu Angesicht getroffen, hoffen aber nach wie vor, dass ihnen das bald gelingt.
